This July we are running a training course to teach surgeons in the use of large bearings in ceramic.

The Corail, the most widely used stem in the world, is 25 years old. At a conference in Geneva the designers presented stunning results- over 95% of stems doing well at 25 years. Even in the youngest, most active patients, the stem revision rate is well below 5%. Make sure your hip replacement has this kind of pedigree!

China Lecture Tour

On this occasion we travelled to the South of China including Guangdong, Sichuan and Chongqing provinces. As ever, Chinese hospitality was faultless and although hard work, the trip was extremely enjoyable.

The brand new and very exciting Silent hip (see front page) is now CE marked and available for use in the UK. Designed to maintain as much bone as possible, it is ideal for young active patients and gives the options of ceramic or metal bearings. Only specially trained surgeons are allowed to implant this hip prosthesis.

Bristol Hip Course

Once again, a very successful meeting. Faculty and delegates travelled from all over the country for a two day resume of current topics in treatment of hip disease.

Uncemented hip training course

The last of these courses for 2009 was held in Stratford in November. We have specifically designed this course for registrars (esp pre-exam) to teach surgical techniques, basic science and results for the Corail and Pinncale uncemented components.
